Family owned and operated, Fox & the Knife is Chef Karen Akunowicz’s first solo restaurant, inspired by the time she spent in Modena, Italy.
She was best known for her work as the Executive Chef at acclaimed Boston eatery Myers + Chang which helped propel her 2018 win for James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: Northeast.
“I spent more than a year living in Modena, immersing myself in the cuisine and culture. Inspired by the regional cuisine from Torino to Napoli, I always knew that when I opened my own restaurant, it would be representative of my time there. Now almost a decade later, to be able to bring that idea to life at Fox & the Knife is a dream come true,” says Akunowicz.
Fox & the Knife embraces the concept and spirit of aperitivo, a communal gathering place where guests come together to celebrate the everyday joys of good company and great food. Fox & the Knife is a casual, contemporary homage to the food, wine, culture and spirit of Modena, all presented in a warm, welcoming, high energy atmosphere. The menu highlights Akunowicz’s flair for the soul-satisfying Italian food that she perfected while working in Italy as a chef and pasta maker at L’Avian Blu Enoteca. In her hands, the bold flavors of exceptional ingredients are expressed through both traditional and modern techniques to introduce new versions of beloved classics.
